Born in the USA

If the economy and plummeting unemployment rates have you up in arms and wondering what you can do, we'll let you in on a little secret... Eat Local, Play Local, Shop Local!

Here at KD's treehouse, it is really important to us that our vendors are socially and ethically responsible... With all of the controversy surrounding the cadmium in children's jewelry and now high levels of lead found in faux leather handbags, you can't not be concerned with where products are orginating, especially when they are coming in contact with your children!  And these contaminated products were found in major retail outlets!

According to the Center for Environmental Health, a child exposed to high levels of lead can experience developmental delays. Lead exposure in adults is attached to increased risk of heart attack, stroke and memory problems.

Although hard to come by, we have a handful of companies, including our private KD's treehouse label that are, indeed, Made in the USA... Rock 'n Roll  Babies, Pixel Organics, Lapsaky, Kiwi (playwear), Garden Kids and our KD's treehouse private label are all completely produced in the United Stated and are 100% committed to community.  As we add vendors to our growing list, our promise to you is to first look within the United States.  We like to know who is making the product, and how it is made, as well as where the materials are coming from.

Kris, Dea and the rest of us here at the treehouse firmly believe that when you purchase items made in the USA, you are supporting jobs in the USA, and that is important.

At KD's treehouse, we even take it a step further to support local artists, enabling them to hone their crafts and be at home with their families.

According to the Shop Columbia campaign, for every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, marketing and other expenditures.  Spend that $100 in another city or online and nothing comes home.

If each employed person in the Columbia area spent $100 each month in a retail business, it would generate more than $32 million in revenue.

And when one of our vendors does not manufacture in the United States, rest assured that they are fair trade certified and follow social accountability standards.  Often times, proceeds will go back into the communities in which the garments were produced... Every little bit makes a difference!

Help stimulate the LOCAL economy... Mention the blog post and receive 20% off any product in the store that is MADE IN THE USA (sorry, this excludes artist consignment pieces)... Offer good through February 27th... Just in time for the Olympics... GO USA!!!
