Because the little things you do make a difference...

K.D.'s treehouse challenges you to make
A few small changes
In your daily routine so you can celebrate Earth Day every day!

From the green book by Elizabeth Rogers & Thomas M. Kostigen:

PAPER
"Recycle, and try to use recycled paper.  American businesses use over twenty-one million tons of paper annually.  If half of this were recycled paper, a forest larger than the state of Florida could be saved every year."

SHADES/DRAPES
"Close the curtains when it's sunny in the sumer and when it's cold in the winter, and you could reduce your energy needs by up to 25 percent.  If every house in America kept the curtains closed for additional insulation, the total energy saved annually would be as much as the entire nation of Japan uses in a year."

TRASH BAGS
"If you need to purchase trash liner bags, look for a brand with 100 percent post consumer recycled content.  Producing trash bags from recycled plastic requires less energy than manufacturing those same bags from virgin plastic.  If just one in ten U.S. households began purchasing trash bags made from 100 percent recycled materials, the annual energy savings could meet the heating needs of four thousand households in Fargo, North Dakota, for the entire year."

Speaking of trash bags... Dea's 4 year old neighbor learned about Earth Day at his preschool and was so excited that when he got home that he couldn't wait to share... By way of attaching a trash bag (we sure hope it was made of 100 percent post consumer recycled content!) to his bicycle and passionately picking up trash in the neighborhood!  If only we could all take that initiative!

And a special thank you...

To everyone who donated items to our clothing drive for The Nurturing Center... Your contribution helped to "nurture trusting, caring relationships between adults and children in South Carolina."

And also to all who participated in our Little Earth Day Party this past Saturday. We had a great turnout for a great cause... Earth Day and The Children's Trust!
